Abstract

Resume. One of the most common human diseases are pathologies of the maxillofacial area. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), periodontal disease leads to tooth loss 5 times more often than with caries complications. With the clinical picture of chronic gingivitis in the periodontium, morphological signs of an active inflammatory process are manifested, which are reflected in the morphofunctional characteristics of the periodontal complex. Methods. To evaluate the changes in clinical and laboratory indicators in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) according to gender differences, depending on the degree of severity and activity of the disease. Materials and methods. The study included 50 patients with SLE (10 men, 40 women) of different age groups from 20 to 55 years old. All patients were treated in the rheumatology department of the "ZOKL" hospital named after A. Novak ZOR. Research results and their discussion: Men had an earlier incidence of SLE, however, the severity of periodontal disease for men was significantly different from women: according to the Russel index, the values were 2.27 and 3.27 points in women. The obtained data convincingly show the dependence of the severity and degree of periodontitis development on systemic disorders caused by the underlying disease. Conclusions: 1. The male index of bone mineral density reduction is 1.87 points significantly lower compared to 2.03 points in women. 2. The severity of the periodontal disease, the destruction of the bone tissue of the alveolar processes of the jaws are interrelated with the main indicators of the severity of the main disease – SLE.
