Hernia is a common disease that afflicts more than 3% of the world's population and makes up 8-20% of patients in
surgical departments. Recurrence after laparoscopic herniorrhaphy is poorly understood. Reports suggest that up to 10-25%
of all laparoscopic herniorrhaphies worldwide, irrespective of the approach, are repaired for recurrence. We report a rare case
of a 51-year old man who presented 13 years after laparoscopic hernia repair with right-sided abdominal pain and
subcutaneous abscesses. This case highlights the importance of recognising mesh migration as a complication
of hernia repair, a phenomenon which can lead to serious morbidity.
